It really does not matter how many children entered the U.S. with her assistance. Mabel Grammer took action creatively using the only method at her disposal. One or more of this entire unique group of children will, for the purposes of history, be known as the “Grammer Children,” a special subset of “brown babies” entering the U.S. Most of these children had undergone ‘adoption by proxy.”
The Grammer family adopted similar children into their family which grew to 14 in a very short time. Mabel & Oscar successfully adopted 12 ‘occupation children’. One died at an early age from Leukemia but they managed to raise 11 to adulthood.
These are the children of Mable and Oscar Grammar. Their names were Karen, Wera, Roswita, Peter, Eugenia, Mark, Mabel, Oscar, Elwen, Jaremy and Nadia. They are but one single family subset of the Grammer Children.
